Our new Lineage Edition Old Ben is a meticulous balance between accuracy and function. All measurements for this version of the Old Ben (Episode IV, ANH version) were taken from a vintage model of original parts to provide incredible screen accuracy, while ALSO profiding excellent install-ability!
We have designed The Old Ben to use a fully-removable core chassis (options available on the site), and will also have chemical weathering options (not the "dabbed-on acrylic paint sort often seen with other brands).
The emitter shown is our FX emitter, which adds a significant support wall on the tip of the balance pipe to help support a blade. We will have a screen-accurate static emitter as well, and have created a limited amount of Inconel emitters (the same material used in the jet engine balance pipe vintage part), for those wishing to make it a "fully vintage" replica.
The clamp for the sample was machined from a solid chunk of brass, and hasn't been plated yet. This is not typically how Graflex clamps are produced; usually, they are cut from a sheet, stamped, and bent. Our shop misunderstood our request for that part and machined one out of brass, but the final hilt will have the appropriate and accurate clamp. (That being said we are quite partial to the clean lines a machined clamp gives, even though the cost is crazy! ;)
The parts here are nearly all raw materials
- Emitter as mentioned will either be Inconel (limited number, offered as an add-on) or stainless steel
- Neck and wind vane are brass with a reinforced steel core
- Grenade is made from high carbon iron (not steel)
- Clamp is stamped and bent aluminum
- Bubble strip is acrylic (will be clear, sample is frosted)
- Frame under the clamp is stainless
- Transistors/washers are stainless and will be nickel plated
- Booster is stainless
- Pommel/Handwheel is chromed ABS and chromed brass
The transistors will act as spring plungers, and by default will be the dual washer setup as seen in the belt hanger hero shots from ANH.
